COP 26 – the UN Climate change conference – is underway in Glasgowand this year has welcomed just over 190 world leaders to talk about the global warming crisis we are facing. It comes just a few months after the UN’s IPCC Report labelled global warming as a « code red for humanity ». This very much feels like the moment of accountability, with world leaders meeting to lay their cards on the table, to show exactly what changes – if any – they have made since that law or agreement was laid down 6 years ago in France. But there are questions over the way the selection of voices to be included in these talks, was made and a feeling that the roles women and indigenous communities are playing are not big enough or in positions of power and decision making. This month Jo Youle is joined by Osprey Orielle Lake – the Founder and Executive Director of the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network to look at how the selections were made and to look more in depth at what issues need to be tackled for us to be able to heard further towards a positive outcome.
